When is Sustainability Unsustainable?

When it gets in the way of doing good business-that’s when. Whether you are doing business as a for-profit, a social business, B-Corp, non-profit, academic institution or as part of local, state or national government, to quote the Beatles, “…in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.” Or so we hope.

Smart leaders are realizing that sustainability is not a strategy to adopt, it is simply good business. The key is in how they approach being “sustainable.” It’s more than reducing a carbon footprint. It is an extension of the organization’s culture and values and in the quality of the relationships these leaders and their people create.

Understand this: “sustainability” only works when it sustains that which supports and sustains us. What sustains? A complex, interwoven net of relationships we call The Value Web. This Value Web is what we need to sustain because it is what sustains us.

Good business aims to not only be profitable but to create prosperity for employees, prosperity throughout it’s value chains, and prosperity in the communities and ecosystems that support it. When done well, the results are simply humbling; the prosperity, abundant.

Come, join us. We’re in this together.
